Importance:
The existence of the marine phanerogam Posidonia oceanica is of a great ecological value. The meadows formed by this species are the most important marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean, as they controbute largely to the primary production. They are also a suitable place for the deposition of the eggs of the fish, and the ideal habitat for many animal and plant species. Those meadows are developed in their most dense form on the side of Messoghi. This marine region is characterized by a huge biodiversity in flaura and fauna. |
